Endometriosis and infertility
Endometriosis is one of the causes of infertility in women and is an often painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, the endometrium, grows outside your uterus. It involves the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis. Rarely, endometrial tissue may spread beyond pelvic organs.
The primary symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, often associated with menstrual periods. Others symptoms include: pain with intercourse, pain with bowel movements or urination, excessive bleeding and you may experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods.
The severity of your pain isn’t necessarily a reliable indicator of the extent of the condition. You could have mild endometriosis with severe pain, or you could have advanced endometriosis with little or no pain.
Infertility treatment: A woman with endometriosis may require infertility treatment in order to conceive. IVF or In vitro fertilization may be the best option for many women with endometriosis, especially those who did not conceive after laparoscopy.
