Endometriosis in Younger Population
Endometriosis affects almost 89 million young women in the reproductive age group worldwide of which 25 million are Indian women, which is almost 1/4th of all diagnosed endometriosis sufferers! This is clearly an alarming number!
Endometriosis is a pelvic condition where the endometrial glands which form the innermost lining of the uterus are found scattered outside of the uterus for eg in the ovaries, in the fallopian tubes, in the broad ligament, over the urinary bladder, on the ligaments, etc., The common symptoms of endometriosis are
(a) Very painful premenstrual & menstrual periods.
(b) Low backache
(c) Painful intercourse
(d) Painful bowel movements during periods.
(e) Painful urination during periods.
(f) Diarrhoea or constipation
(g) Fatigue
(h) Heavy periods at times
(i) Infertility.
Indian women are usually told that these symptoms are common for everyone & it needs no attention. So I see many ladies suffering in silence. But I would like to tell the ladies to just consult a doctor, gynaecologist & get a scan (pelvic) to know whether she is suffering from pelvic endometriosis, instead of being heavily dependent on painkillers which are very harmful in the long run on the kidneys & liver. If you are found to be suffering from pelvic endometrioses, doctor’s can guide you on how to get rid of the pain by medical & surgical means once & for all & also prevent the long term adverse effects on the fertility of the lady. Why suffer when there is an easy solution on hand. Get yourself investigated if you are suffering from any of the above-mentioned symptoms.
